Supported Independent Living on the Gold Coast

SIL that keeps house culture respectful, rosters predictable, and your NDIS goals visible every shift, not buried in a folder.

Supported Independent Living (SIL) funds the help you need in a shared or single-occupancy home so everyday tasks (meals, cleaning, budgeting, and health routines) stay within reach. On the Gold Coast we match workers who understand local services, transport links, and the pace you want at home. Our directors still roster time on the floor, which means decisions about staffing, training, and house rules are tested against real shifts, not spreadsheets alone.

What is involved

We begin with a plain-language review of your NDIS plan, roster of care, and any behaviour support or allied health strategies already in place. From there we co-design morning and evening routines, meal planning, medication prompts (always following your prescriber’s instructions), and communication channels for families or nominees. Where multiple participants share a property, we facilitate house meetings so noise, visitors, and shared spaces are negotiated fairly. We document incidents, near misses, and compliments using templates that align with Queensland safeguarding expectations, and we train staff in manual handling, infection control, and respectful personal care.

What to expect

Expect consistent key workers, shift handovers you can read in your own time, and a direct line to coordinators during business hours (8am–4pm, Monday to Friday). Overnight support is calm and unobtrusive unless your plan calls for active assistance. We partner with local GPs, mental health teams, and therapists so appointments on the Gold Coast do not become a logistical puzzle. If funding or living arrangements change, we help you talk through options with your planner early rather than letting issues drift.

Benefits you will notice

  • Rosters built around your preferences, not whatever was easiest to fill.
  • Skills training that transfers: cooking, laundry, and travel training with real-world practice.
  • Transparent updates so families and nominees know what happened each week.

Questions families ask

How does SIL funding sit inside my Queensland NDIS plan?

SIL is quoted as a daily rate that reflects your approved supports and roster of care. The NDIA or your plan manager pays the provider in line with the NDIS Price Guide. We help you understand which parts are flexible and which require a plan reassessment before they can change.

What happens during overnight shifts in a shared home?

Overnight support follows the risk assessment and behaviour support plan attached to your file. Staff remain within earshot for agreed checks, use torch lighting that respects sleep, and log anything unusual for the morning handover. If a medical emergency arises, we call 000 first, then notify your emergency contacts as listed in your plan.

Can we change housemates or workers if the fit is not right?

Yes. We start with mediation and clearer house agreements, but if a mix still does not work we escalate to your support coordinator and the NDIA where required. The goal is a safe, respectful home, not forcing a mismatch because it is administratively convenient.
